LEVEL 101

This introductory course will help you protect your digital security and privacy.  You will learn practical techniques that you can immediately use to defend yourself (and your family) from the digital threats that pervade the Internet — to safeguard your computers and your data. Security and Privacy are two different-but-related topics, and it is important to take control of both for your personal and financial wellbeing.

In Digital Self Defense you will learn about the many digital dangers you face and how to defend yourself from them.  We cover software vulnerabilities, managing your passwords, protecting your home network, how to avoid phishing attacks, how to back up your precious data, techniques to protect your on-line privacy, safe use of so-called “smart” devices, and how to leverage technology in the event of an emergency.

Level 101 classes are designed for students who have already tried out  learning in a virtual classroom over Zoom. We expect that you have an email address and know how to send and receive email. CORE has Level 00 classes where you can learn and practice these important skills. Please look for emails from Computer CORE about an orientation session to confirm your readiness for this class. You can also contact our HelpDesk at 866-977-3033 or helpdesk@computercore.org with questions.
