This Computer Technology class invites a new guest speaker each week to share information about employer IT skill needs, their personal journey into an IT career, and other topics. This is a great class for anyone interested in learning about various IT careers, including learning new vocabularly used in today's IT professions. Speakers include business owners, systems engineers, and young professionals.
This class touches on basic elements of Computer Engineering and Computer Science, providing you with a glimpse of subjects such as Cloud Computing (AWS, Azure); app development; SQL and data analysis; Python Coding and more.

Essential Software Skills (M, 6-7 pm)

LEVEL 101
In just nine weeks, this class will cover basic skills used in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint including understanding where to save and how to find your files, basic elements of the ribbon and tool bars, and simple composition in each application. This is an ideal class for beginners to get a taste of Microsoft apps before continuing on to other classes.
Desktop Publishing in MS Word (M, 7:15-8:15 pm)

Do you have a pretty good grasp of Microsoft Word, and feel like you are ready for the next step? Would you like to be able to produce longer, more complex documents, and have them look professional? Do you want to design and produce flyers and brochures? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this class just might be for you. We will cover all of this and more, according to class needs. You should be somewhat proficient in basic Microsoft Word skills and be able to produce a small document without help. Note: To take full advantage of this class, you should be proficient in Microsoft Word and be prepared to do short homework assignments each week.

Excel-Level 1 (Monday, 7:15 - 8:15 pm)

LEVEL 101
Excel Level 1 is for beginners. It covers fundamental concepts and skills aligned with Northstar Digital Literacy curriculum standards. Students enrolled in this beginner level course will learn how to create, open, close and save workbooks and worksheets using basic formulas and functions. Students will practice identifying cells, inserting and deleting rows, selecting range, sorting, print area options, page orientation, auto fill and auto sum options.

Intro to Google Workspace (M, 7:15 - 8:15 pm)

LEVEL 101
Students cover the basics of Google Workspace: setting up professional email for those without email, signing in and out of a Google account and navigating to commonly used applications like Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Docs. Google Calendar, and Google Slides. The differences and similarities between Google and Microsoft Office products will be explained. Students will also learn to collaborate with others, identify the design features of Google Drive, create, upload, save and share documents, files, and folders. A working knowledge of the most common applications, basic purpose of the applications, capacities, and limitations will be developed by students.

Students will learn and develop the skills necessary to achieve success in virtual and in-person professional education and work environments. Students will learn about online etiquette and ethics and how best to interact, engage and collaborate with each other. Bridges to Success now includes PowerPoint and incorporates some helpful skills to utilize in virtual environments.
